Correct Answer - Option 2 : 42000

Given:

A started a business by investing Rs. 36000. After 4 months B joined him with some investment. At the end of the year, the total profit was divided between them in the ratio of 9 : 7

Concept used:

Profit = Investment × time period

Calculation:

Investment of A in one year = 36000 × 12

⇒ 432000

Let B invest Rs. x after 4 months

Investment of B after one year = 8x

According to the question,

432000/8x = 9/7

⇒ x = 42000

∴ The capital invested by B is Rs. 42000.
