National Flag:

  • The design of the National Flag was adopted by the Constituent Assembly of India on  July 22, 1947.
  • The National Flag shall be rectangular in shape.
  • The ratio of the length to the height (width) of the Flag shall be 3 : 2.
  • As per the provisions of the Flag Code of India, 2002, there is no restriction on the display of the National Flag by members of the general public, private organizations, educational institutions, etc., except to the extent provided in the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950 and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 and any other law enacted on the subject. 
  • It became the official flag of the Dominion of India on 15 August 1947.
  • The flag was subsequently retained as that of the Republic of India.
  • The flag is based on the Swaraj flag, a flag of the Indian National Congress designed by Pingali Venkayya.
  • By law, the flag is to be made of khadi, a special type of hand-spun cloth or silk, made popular by Mahatma Gandhi.
  • It was designed by Pingali Venkayya.

Thus, the ratio of length and width of the National Flag of India is 3 : 2.
