The correct answer is Rajaji National Park.

  • In 2015, Rajaji National Park was notified as a tiger reserve by the central government under Project Tiger.

 Rajaji National Park:

  • It is situated between the Shivalik ranges and the Indo-Gangetic plains.
  • The Ganga and Song rivers flow through the park.
  • It is spread over three districts of Uttarakhand: Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal.
  • Flora: Broadleaved deciduous forests, riverine vegetation, scrubland, grasslands and pine forests.
  • Fauna: Elephants, Tigers, Great Pied Hornbill, Himalayan Pied Kingfisher and the fire tailed sunbird.

Project Tiger:

  • Launched: In 1973 from the Jim Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.
  • At present, there are 52 reserves located in 18 tiger range states of India.
  • The administrating body for the project is the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
  • The objectives of the project are:
    • To reduce factors that cause the diminishing of tiger habitats and manage them.
    • Ensuring a viable tiger population for scientific, ecological and cultural values.
  • Apart from preserving the habitats of the tigers, it also conducts tiger census in the country and combats poaching.

  • The Monitoring System for Tigers – Intensive Protection and Ecological Status, or M-STrIPES was launched in 2010.
    • It is a software-based monitoring system for tigers.
  • The e-Eye system was launched in 2016 at Jim Corbett, which uses thermal cameras for surveillance.
