Correct Answer - Option 1 : i and ii

The correct answer is i and ii.

  • Approximately half of the area of the Rajasthan is under cultivation with an average cropping intensity of 125%.
  • 12.6% is out ot non-agricultural uses, i.e. not available for cultivation.
  • Barren land constitutes about 19 percent of the total reported area for land use purposes in the State. Hence, statement 1 is correct.
  • The other land uses classes include-
    • 13.27% of land as a culturable wasteland
    • 7.76% of land under forest
    • 10.75% of land as fallow land
    • 5% of land as pasture and grazing land
    • 6.95% of land as barren and uncultivable land
  • Culturable Wasteland is highest in Ajmer, Alwar and Jaisalmer and minimum at Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu and Bharatpur.
  • Old fallow land has recorded about 18 per cent decrease over the last 30 years in the State. Hence, statement 2 is correct.
  • The National Wastelands Development Board was created in 1985 under the ministry of environment and forest (MEF) to manage wastelands. It was bifurcated so that degraded land outside forests could be used to meet rural needs.
  • MEF retained the wastelands within the forest, while the forests, while that outside went to the new department. Hence, statement 3 is not correct.
  • The Integrated Wastelands Development Project is a 100 percent centrally sponsored scheme. The development of non-forest wastelands is taken up under this Scheme.
  • The scheme provides for the development of an entire micro watershed in a holistic manner rather than piecemeal treatment in sporadic patches.
  • The thrust of the scheme continues to be on the development of wastelands.
  • The fourth statement is not correct.
