Correct Answer - Option 3 : 100m

Given:

Policeman notices a thief from a distance = 500 m.

Policeman run at the rate of 12 km/hr

And thief run at the rate of 10 km/hr

Distance covered time = 12 minutes

Formula used:

Distance = speed x time

Calculation:

Relative speed = (12 - 10)km/hr = 2 km/hr

Time = 12 minutes = 12/60 hr = 1/5 hr

So, Distance covered in 12 minutes = Speed × Time = 2x(1/5) = 2/5 km =   400 m.

⇒ Distance between the thief and policeman = (500 - 400) = 100 m.

∴ After 12 minutes distance between thief ans policeman is 100 m.
