Correct Answer - Option 5 :

x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established

Calculation:

I. x2 + 33x – 70 = 0

⇒ x2  + 35x – 2x – 70 = 0

⇒ x(x + 35) – 2(x + 35) =0

⇒ (x + 35) (x – 2) = 0

⇒ x = – 35, 2

II. y2 + 27y + 50 = 0

⇒ y2 + 25y + 2y + 50 = 0

⇒ y(y + 25) + 2(y + 25) = 0

⇒ (y + 25) (y + 2) = 0

⇒ y = –25, –2

Comparison between x and y (via tabulation):

X

Y

Relation

–25

x < y

 35

–2

x < y

–2

x > y

∴ x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established
