Correct Answer - Option 4 : supporting gender stereotyping of roles by favouring Mohan

A good teacher is a transmitter of knowledge and a facilitator of effective learning. He plays a key role in the cognitive, emotional, social and physical development of a student.

  • All students are the same in the eyes of a teacher. He neither discriminates against any of his students. Instead, he motivates them to learn and attain their objective.
  • He is not only the supporting pillar for a student but also counsel him and shows him the direction during important decision-making of his life and profession.
  • He has mastery of his subject and uses different teaching methods and techniques to simplify topics for a better understanding of students.
  • He evaluates the performance of a student fairly and helps him to improve and shine.
  • He does not believe in favouritism. Also, he helps students to develop their skills and ability.
  • He helps students to find solutions and in case the students commit any mistake, he rectifies the error instead of neglecting it.
  • In this question, Monika being a Maths teacher asks a question to one student named Radhika but Radhika is not able to answer so Monika quickly moves to Mohan and asks another question.
  • Also when she finds Mohan is not able to answer she rewords the question. She could have done the same for Radhika when she was not able to answer her question. It shows she is favouring Mohan over Radhika. This behavior of Monika reflects that she is supporting gender stereotyping.

Hence, it is concluded that Monika is supporting gender stereotyping of roles by favouring Mohan.

  • Gender Stereotype refers to passing judgements and creating biases about characteristics and traits of a particular gender.
  •  A teacher's main motive behind asking a question is to evaluate the learning outcome rather than embarrassing a student.
  • A good teacher never demotivates any student or creates an embarrassing situation for him. Instead, he works as a driving force for the student by giving them tips or hints and encouraging them to try to answer.
  • A teacher has to be confident and keep patience instead of being nervous or impatient. He must have confidence in what he teaches and questions.
