Correct Answer - Option 5 :

x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established

Calculation:

I. x2 – 16x + 55 = 0

⇒ x2 – 11x – 5x + 55 = 0

⇒ x(x – 11) – 5(x – 11) = 0

⇒ (x – 11) (x – 5) = 0

⇒ x = 11, 5

II. y2 – 17y + 52 = 0

⇒ y2 – 13y – 4y + 52 = 0

⇒ y(y – 13) – 4(y – 13) = 0

⇒ (y – 13) (y – 4) = 0

⇒ y = 13, 4

Comparison between x and y (via tabulation):

X

Y

Relation

13

x < y

x > y

∴ The relation between x and y cannot be determined.
