The reading on the pressure gauge fitted on a vessel is 34 bar. The atmospheric pressure is 1.03 bar and the value of g is 9.81 m/s2. The absolute pressure in the vessel is:

2. 35.03 bar
3. 32.97 bar
4. 44.03 bar

Correct Answer - Option 2 : 35.03 bar

Concept:

Different types of pressure:

Atmospheric pressure:

(i) The pressure exerted by atmospheric air normally upon all surfaces with which it is in contact, is known as atmospheric pressure.

Absolute pressure:

(i) The pressure measured above absolute zero (or complete vacuum) is known as absolute pressure.

Gauge pressure:

(i) The pressure measured above or below the atmospheric pressure is known as gauge pressure. Thus gauge pressure can be negative or positive. It's value will be negative if the value of absolute pressure is less than atmospheric pressure and vice versa

Absolute pressure = Atmospheric pressure + Gauge pressure

Absolute pressure = Atmospheric pressure - Vaccum pressure

Calculation:

Given,

Atmospheric pressure = 34 bar

Gauge pressure = 1.03 bar

Absolute pressure = Atmospheric pressure + Gauge pressure

Absolute pressure = 34 + 1.03 = 35.03 bar
