Given:

The average age of a man, his wife, and twin daughters on daughters 4th birthday = 20 years

Calculation:

Let the age of man be M, wife be W and daughters be D.

Age of daughters = 4 each

The sum of the age of man, his wife and daughter after 4 years of daughters birth = M + 4 + W + 4 + 2 × 4 = 22 × 4 = 88 years

When daughters were just born age of couple = M + W = 80 - 16 = 64 years

∴Sum of age of couple when the twins were just born is 64 years.
