  • In 2004, EVMs were used on a trial basis, which had a maximum of 3840 votes.
  • Since 2014, Electronic voting machines have been used in all general and state assembly elections of India. 

  • EVMs were developed by the Electronics Corporation of India and Bharat Electronics in the 1990s.  
  • The EVM was designed by two professors of IIT Bombay, A.G. Rao, and Ravi Poovaiah.
  • VVPAT stands for Voter verifiable paper audit trail.
