Correct Answer - Option 3 : Travancore

The correct answer is Travancore.

  • Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi (popularly known as Velu Thampi) was the Dalawa or Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore.
  • He is best known for being one of the earliest individuals to rebel against the British East India Company's supremacy in India.
  • The British put pressure on Travancore to pay tribute as well as the expense incurred when putting down the mutiny of its army.
    • They also tried to get the King to dismiss the Dalawa.
    • For his part, the Dalawa began to foment a rebellion against the British presence in the state.
  • Velu Thampi organized an armed force, bolstered defenses, and stocked up for a long war, while appeals were made to the Calicut Zamorin and the French.
    • He sought to assault the Cochin fort and kill the British resident there to weaken their influence in the region.
