  • Ten Fundamental Duties were incorporated as per recommendations of the Swaran Singh Committee by the 42nd amendment in 1976.

  • 11th fundamental duty was added in 2002 by the 86th amendment act.
  • The necessity of these duties was felt during the time of emergency of 1975-77.
  • Article 51a of the Indian constitution deals with the fundamental duties.
  • They were created to promote culture, respect the Indian Constitution along with the national flag and national anthem and increase the power in the hands of the Legislature to implement these duties.
  • They work hand in hand with fundamental rights.

  • 24th Amendment- Under this amendment, the power of the Parliament was clarified that it can amend any part of the amendment that includes. It is mandatory that the amendment bill will be passed by the President when it is passed by both Houses.
  • 39th Amendment- Under this amendment, the election-related disputes of the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha were freed from the judicial trial.
  • 44th Amendment- Article 352 of the Constitution was amended to provide that one reason for the declaration of a state of emergency would be 'armed rebellion'. Internal disturbances, if it is not an armed rebellion, will not be the basis for the declaration of a state of emergency.
