  • Renewable resources: These are the sources that can be replenished over a period of time.
    • It depends on natural sources.
    • It includes solar energy, geothermal energy, wind, tidal, water, and various types of biomass.
    • It can never be finished and can be constantly renewed
  • Non-renewable:- Such types of resources cannot be renewed quickly and are available in limited quantities. Example: coal, oil, and natural gas.
    • They are also called fossil fuels.
    • They form within Earth over millions of years from dead plants and animals.

  • Biotic and abiotic-
    • Abiotic components- These are non-living chemical and physical factors in the environment that affect ecosystems. Examples include soil, water, air, sunlight, and minerals.
    • Biotic-These describes a living component of an ecosystem. They are derived from the biosphere. For example animals, fish, forests, birds, and marine organisms.  
  • National and individual
    • National resources – These are resources that are owned by a nation and are used for their profits such as wildlife and minerals.
    • Individual resources – These are owned by an individual and used for his own purposes like car, house, table, and chair.
  • Potential and reserves
    • Potential resources – These are the sources that have been recognized but are not yet in practice due to the shortage of availability of technology.
    • Reserves Resources –These are the resources that have been recognized and are completely maintained for present and future application.
