Given:

A leak in a tank will empty it in = 8 hours

A tap puts water in the tank at = 6 L a minute

After this, the tank gets emptied in = 24 hours

Calculation:

Work is done by the tap in 1 h = 1/8 – 1/24

⇒ (3 - 1)/24

⇒ 2/24

⇒ 1/12

∴ work is done by the tap in 1 min = 1/12 × 1/60

⇒ 1/720

∴ volume of 1/720 part = 6 L

∴ The volume of the tank = 720 × 6

⇒ 4320 L

∴ the tank holds 4320 Liters.
