Correct Answer - Option 2 : Wood

Concept:

Fossil fuel:

  • These are the fuel which is formed by natural processes such as decomposition of dead and buried organisms.
  • Fossil fuels are made from decomposing plants and animals.
  • When fossil fuels are burned carbon and hydrogen react with oxygen in the air to carbon dioxide.
  • During this reaction, heat is released which further amplifies the reaction.
  • The burning of fossil fuels is the world's largest contributor to air pollution.
  •  It releases pollutants, including particulate matter, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, mercury, and other hazardous air pollutants.
  • Carbon Monoxide (CO) produced from partial fossil fuel combustion.

Calorific value:

  • Calorific value is the amount of energy released or produced when 1 kg of fuel burns.
  • SI unit is kj/kg.
  • A good fuel is considered to have a higher calorific value.

Explanation:

Petrol:

  • Petrol (gasoline), is a product of petroleum, produced by distilling and refining petroleum.
  • The calorific value of petrol is 45.8 MJ/kg.

Diesel:

  • It is a mixture of hydrocarbons obtained by distillation of crude oil.
  • Diesel fuel derived from vegetable oils by the process of transesterification.
  • The calorific value of diesel fuel is roughly 45.5 MJ/kg.

CNG:

  • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), is natural gas under pressure that remains clear, odourless, and non-corrosive.
  • it can be used directly for burning in homes and factories where it can be supplied through pipes.
  • The calorific value of compressed natural gas is higher than petrol.

From the above discussion, we can see that, except wood, all others are forms of fossil fuel.
