  • Madam Bhikhaji Rustam Cama:
    • Bhikaiji Rustom Cama was one of the eminent figures in the Indian independence movement.
    • Madam Bhikhaji Rustam Cama is regarded as “The Mother of Indian Revolution”.
    • She was called to hoist the flag over the parliament in Germany.
    • Like many Parsi girls of the time, Bhikhaiji attended Alexandra Girls' English Institution.

  • Annie Besant:
    • Annie Besant started a newspaper called “New India” to highlight issues related to the freedom struggle in India.
    • In 1916, Annie Besant launched the All India Home Rule League.
    • This was the first faction in India that demanded complete independence.
    • As a result, the government had to grant small concessions.
    • Annie Besant was freed in September 1917.
    • In December of the same year, she became the president of the Indian National Congress for one year.
  • Sarojini Naidu:
    • Sarojini Naidu began to play an active role in the Indian independence movement.
    • Her meeting with leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Gopal Krishna Gokhale (Born on May 9 1866) and Rabindranath Tagore spurred her on to work against the British Colonial government and towards social reform.
    • Between 1915 and 1918 she travelled the length and breadth of the country to deliver lectures on social welfare, the emancipation of women etc
    • In 1917 she helped in the formation of the Women’s Indian Association (WIA).
    • Sarojini Naidu took part in the Salt March with Mahatma Gandhi and was arrested by the British authorities along with all the Congress leaders in 1930.
  • Akkamma Cherian:
    • Great Freedom fighter and political leader.
    • She was hailed from Travancore.
    • She was best known for led a mass rally from Thamapanoor to the Kowdiar Palace of the Maharaja Chithira Thirunal to get the ban on the State Congress lifted. 
    • She came to be known as the Jhansi Rani of Travancore.
    • Famous words: I am the leader; shoot me first before you kill others.
    • She took the initiative for the formation of Desasevika Sangh.
    • Akkamma was elected without any opposition to the Travancore Legislative Assembly from Kanjirapally in 1947. 
    • He wrote the book the story of the year 1114.
    • Her Autobiography: Jeevitham: Oru Samaram.
    • She died on May 5, 1982.
