Correct Answer - Option 2 : 15 km

Given:

Actual speed(S1) = 24 km/h

New speed(S2) = 18 km/h

Extra time taken to travel same distance = 12(1/2) min

Formula used:

Time taken to travel a distance = Distance/Speed

Calculation:

Let, the distance between home and college = a km

∵ New time - Actual time = 12(1/2) min

⇒ (a/18) hr - (a/24) hr = 25/2 min

⇒ (4a - 3a)/72 = 25/(2 × 60) hr

⇒ a/72 hr = 25/(2 × 60) hr

⇒ a = (25 × 72)/(2 × 60) km

⇒ a = 15 km

∴ Distance between Home and college = 15 km
