Correct Answer - Option 2 : 4 : 5

Given:

The present ages of two cousins = 2 : 3

The ages of the cousins = 1 : 3

Calculation:

Let the present ages of the two Cousins be 2x and 3x respectively.

∴ According to the question:

⇒ (2x – 6)/(3x – 6) = 1/3

⇒ 6x – 18 = 3x – 6

⇒ 3x = 12

⇒ x = 4.

∴ required ratio:

(2x + 8) : (3x + 8)

⇒ 8 + 8 : 12 + 8

⇒ 16 : 20

⇒ 4 : 5.

∴ The ratio of the cousins' ages after 8 years is 4 : 5.
