Correct Answer - Option 4 : The Speaker of the Lok Sabha

The Correct Answer is The Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

  • The speaker of the Lok Sabha appoints the chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee. The representatives have a one-year term of office.
  • The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) is a committee of appointed members of parliament formed by the Indian Parliament for the purpose of auditing the government's revenue and expenditure.
  • They ensure that parliament has control over the executive, based on the fundamental principle that parliament represents the people's will.
  • The three financial standing committees of the Indian Parliament are this assembly, the Estimates Committee (EC), and the Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU).

  • The Public Accounts Committee is made up of no more than twenty-two members, fifteen of whom are elected by the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, and seven by the Rajya Sabha, the upper house.
  • The 16th Lok Sabha currently lacks a designated opposition leader, but the Indian National Congress (INC), as the largest opposition party, has been given the task of leading the PAC.
  • Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has led the PAC since July 2019, succeeding Mallikarjun Kharge, the INC's Lok Sabha leader.
  • In May 2018, he was re-appointed for a second term.
