Correct Answer - Option 3 : Anaerobic digester

The correct answer is Anaerobic digester.

  • The biogas is produced by the micro-bacterial decomposition of the substrate in an oxygen-free environment, i.e. under anaerobic conditions.
  • The anaerobically non-usable energy is contained in the “waste product” of biogas in the form of biomethane.
  • A biogas plant is where biogas is produced by fermenting biomass.
  • The substrate used for the production of this methane-containing gas usually consists of energy crops such as corn, or waste materials such as manure or food waste.
  • The fermentation residue left over from the substrates at the end of the process can be used as fertilizer.

  • Aerobic sludge digestion is a biological process that takes place in the presence of oxygen.
    • With oxygen, bacteria present in the sludge (activated sludge) consume organic matter and converts it into carbon dioxide
  • Gasifier or Gasification is a process of conversion of the fuel or organic wastes/matter into a gas called producer gas.
    • This process involves a sequence of chemical and thermal reactions like oxidation and reduction.
