    • The British Government will grant absolute self-government to British India by June 30, 1948, at the latest.
    • After the date of final transition is determined, the future of the Princely States will be decided. 
  • Lord Mountbatten discussed the issue of the princely states, of which there were over 565, at a press conference on June 4, 1947.
  • The treaty ties between Britain and the Indian States would come to an end, and the British Crown's suzerainty would expire on August 15, 1947.
