There are many types of microphones available in the market. Each has certain advantages and disadvantages. Hence, the selection of a microphone depends upon the characteristics. Some of the characteristics are mentioned here. Select the INCORRECT option.

2. Output level
3. Frequency response
4. Output impedance

Correct Answer - Option 1 :  Look and price

Explanation:

A microphone is a device that captures audio by converting sound waves into electrical signals. This signal can be amplified as an analog signal or may be converted to a digital signal, which can be processed by a computer or other digital audio device.

In order to provide some background for these techniques, it is useful first to understand some of the important characteristics of the microphones themselves.

The most important characteristics of microphones for live sound applications are their operating principle, frequency response, output level, output impedance, and directionality.

1. Operating principle: The type of transducer inside the microphone, that is, how the microphone picks up sound and converts it into an electrical signal.

A transducer is a device that changes energy from one form into another, in this case, acoustic energy into electrical energy. The operating principle determines some of the basic capabilities of the microphone. The two most common types are Dynamic and Condenser.

2. Output Level: Sensitivity, the ratio of the analog output voltage or digital output value to the input pressure, is a key specification of any microphone. Mapping units in the acoustic domain to units in the electrical domain determines the magnitude of the microphone output signal, given a known input.

3. Frequency Response: The output level or sensitivity of the microphone over its operating range from lowest to highest frequency.

Flat response microphones typically have an extended frequency range. They reproduce a variety of sound sources without changing or coloring the original sound.

A microphone whose response has peaks or dips in certain frequency areas exhibits a shaped response.

4. Output Impedance: This is the impedance of the signal as it is outputted from the microphone.

Professional microphones are low-impedance. A professional or “good” mic output impedance is in the range of 50 Ω – 500 Ω, though some pro mics have impedances slightly outside this range. So long as the output impedance is much lower (1/10th or less) than the load impedance, it is considered good.

Hence Look and price of a microphone is not an important characteristic of a microphone,

So option(1) is the correct answer.
