Correct Answer - Option 2 : Rs. 3000

Given:

The selling price with a discount of 32% is more than the selling price obtained with two successive discounts of 20% and 12% by Rs. 72.

Concepts used:

M.P. = S.P. + Discount

Discount % = Discount/M.P. × 100

Profit % = {(S.P. – C.P.)/C.P.} × 100

Calculation:

Let M.P. be Rs. x.

⇒ S.P. after 32% = x – 32% of x = 0.68x

⇒ S.P. with first of successive discount = x - 20% of x = 4x/5

⇒ S.P. after 2nd successive discount = 4x/5 × (100 - 12)/100

⇒ (4x/5) × 88/100 = 88x/125

The selling price with discount of 32% is more than the selling price obtained with two successive discounts of 20% and 12% by Rs. 72.

⇒ (88x/125) – 0.68x = Rs. 72

⇒ (88x - 85x)/125 = 72

⇒ 3x/125 = 72

⇒ x = Rs. 3000

Marked price of good is Rs. 3000.
