Correct Answer - Option 3 : Rs. 5 crore

The correct answer is Rs. 5 crores.

  • Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana was initiated to bring the member of parliament of all the political parties under the same umbrella while taking the responsibility of developing physical and institutional infrastructure in villages and turn them into model villages.
    • Under this yojana, each member of parliament needs to choose one village each from the constituency that they represent, except their own village or their in-law's village, and fix parameters and make it a model village by 2019.
    • Under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana Scheme, in a year, a Member of Parliament can suggest to the District Collector, the quantum of works worth Rs. 5 crores.
  • Thereafter, they can take on two or three more villages and do the same by the time the next general elections come along in 2019, and thereafter, set themselves ten-year-long village or rural improvement projects.
    • Villages will be offered smart schools, universal access to basic health facilities, and Pucca housing to homeless villagers.

  • Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana was launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of Jayaprakash Narayan, on 11 October 2014.
  • Aim of the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana:
    • Under the Yojana, Members of Parliament (MPs) are responsible for developing the socio-economic and physical infrastructure of three villages each by 2019, and a total of eight villages each by 2024.
      • The first Adarsh Gram (Model Village) was to be developed by 2016, and two more by 2019.
    • From 2019 to 2024, five more Adarsh Grams must be developed by each MP, one each year.
      • This implies that a total of 6,433 Adarsh Grams, of the 2,65,000 gram panchayats, will be created by 2024.
