Correct Answer - Option 3 : 17

Given:

Number of students who speak Hindi = 40%

Number of students who speak English only = 40%

Calculation:

Number of students who speak Hindi = 40 × 85/100

⇒ 34

Number of students who speak English only = 40 × 85/100

⇒ 34

Let the total number of students who speak both languages be x

The number of students who did not speak any languages = x

Number of students who speak only Hindi = 34 - x

As per question,

34 + x + 34 - x + x = 85

⇒ x = 85 - 68

⇒ x = 17

The number of students who speak Hindi only = 34 - 17

⇒ 17

∴ The number of students who speak Hindi only is 17.
