  • Ebola is a virus.

  • Virus:
    • The virus was discovered by Russian scientist Dmitri Ivanovsky.
    • Viruses are ultra-microscopic particles.
    • They are a connecting link between the living and nonliving organisms.
    • Characteristics of a Virus:
      • They become active inside living cells.
      • Nucleic acids replicate themselves and reproduce rapidly.
      • They cause diseases like bacteria and fungi. 
  • Ebola Virus:
    • It is also known as the Ebola virus disease (EVD) or Ebola hemorrhagic fever (EHF).
    • Ebola is named after the river in Africa where the disease was first recognized in 1976.
