  • The main source of electric energy in an artificial satellite are solar cells.
  • Solar cells or photovoltaic cells are made of Silicon.
  • They convert light energy into electrical energy through the photovoltaic effect.
    • The effect due to which light energy is converted to electric energy in certain semiconductor materials is known as the photovoltaic effect.
  • A solar cell is basically a p-n junction diode.
    • p-n junction in an electrical circuit allows current to flow more easily in one direction than another.
