  • The gravitational force with which the sun attracts the earth is the same as the force with which the earth attracts the sun.
  • Newton’s law of gravitation states that any particle of matter in the universe attracts any other with a force varying directly as the product of the masses and inversely as the square of the distance between them.

  • Mathematical representation of Newton's law 
  • \(F=G{\frac{m_1m_2}{r^2}}\)
  • Here F is the gravitational force, G is the gravitational constant, m1 & m2 are masses of both objects and r is the distance between the objects.
  • \(G=6.67430 \times 10^{-11} \; \frac{N \cdot m ^{2}}{ kg^{2}} \)
