Correct Answer - Option 5 : x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established.

I. x− 16x − 105 = 0

⇒ x2 − 21x + 5x − 105= 0

⇒ x(x − 21) + 5(x − 21) = 0

x = − 5, 21

II. y2 + 16y 105 = 0

⇒ y2 + 21y − 5y + 105 = 0

⇒ y(y + 21) 5(y + 21) = 0

 y = − 21,  5

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

Value of x

Value of y

Relation

21

- 21

x > y

21

x > y

- 5

- 21

x > y

x < y

∴ x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established.
