Correct Answer - Option 3 : x ≥ y

I. x− 12x − 108 =0

⇒ x2 − 18x + 6x − 108  = 0

⇒ x(x − 18) + 6(x − 18) = 0

⇒ (x + 6), (x − 18) = 0

x = − 6, 18

II. y2 + 19y + 78 = 0

⇒ y2 + 13y + 6y + 78 = 0

⇒ y(y + 13) + 6(y + 13) = 0

 y = − 13,  − 6

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

Value of x

Value of y

Relation

- 6

- 6

x = y

- 6

- 13

x > y

18

- 6

x > y

18

- 13

x > y

∴ x ≥ y
