Correct Answer - Option 2 : (a) -(iii), (b) - (i), (c) - (ii)

The correct option is (a) -(iii), (b) - (i), (c) - (ii)

Concept:

Methods of Heat Transfer:

Conduction:

  • The heat transfer through direct physical contact is known as conduction.
  • Heat transferred from the electric burner of a stove to the bottom of a pan is transferred by conduction.

Radiation:

  • When electromagnetic radiation is emitted or absorbed to transfer the heat or When heat is transferred in the form of electromagnetic waves is known as radiation.
  • Electromagnetic radiation includes microwaves, radio waves, infrared radiation, visible light, ultraviolet radiation, gamma rays, and X-rays.
  • The method does not require any medium so heat from the sun reaches us by this method.

Convection

  • It is heat transfer by the movement of its molecules.
  • It occurs only in fluids (liquid and gas) not in solids because solid particles can not move from one place to another.
  • For example, in a pot boiling water on the stove, or in thunderstorms, where hot air rises up to the base of the clouds.
  • Sea breeze and land breeze occurs due to convection.

Sea breeze Land breeze
  • In the coastal areas, the land warms up faster than the ocean surface.
  • Warm air from the land rises up and creates an area of low pressure. Now the air above the ocean surface is cooler and pressure is higher than that on land.
  • This pressure difference causes the air to move from ocean to sea. This is known as the sea breeze.
  • During the night, the land cools down faster than the ocean surface.
  • The warmer air from the ocean rises up and creates an area of low pressure near the surface.
  • This is filled in by cooler air from the land. This gives rise to the land breeze.
