If x and y are negative, then which of the following statements is/are always true ?

I. x + y is positive.

II. xy is positive.

Correct Answer - Option 2 : II only

Calculation:

Let x = - x and y = - y

Option I: (- x) + (- y) = - (x + y) which is not true

Option II: (- x) × (- y) = xy which is true.

Option III: (- x) - (- y) = - x + y if x > y then negative and if x < y then positive so we can not say it is only positive.

∴ From options, only option II is always true.
