Correct Answer - Option 4 : Neither a and b

Given

Total 90 people were present.

50% had Chinese dinner

40% had Italian dinner

10% had both dinner

Formula Used

Simple concept of percentage and sets.

Calculation

Number of people had Chinese dinner, n(A) = (50/100) × 90

 45

Number of people had Italian dinner, n(B) = (40/100) × 90 = 36

Number of people had both dinner, n(A∩B) = (10/100) × 90 = 9

People who have either or both dinners, n(A∪B) = 45 + 36 - 9 = 72

So, statement a is wrong

People who do not have either dinner were = 90 - 72 = 18

So, statement b is also wrong.

∴ The correct option is 4 (neither a nor b).
