Best answer
Correct Answer - Option 3 : Both a and b

Given

26% failed in History

38% failed in Hindi

18% failed in both

Formula Used

Basics of percentage and simplification.

Calculation∶

Let the total no. of students be 100

Number of students failed in History = 26% of 100 = 26

Number of students failed in Hindi = 38% of 100 = 38

Number of students failed in both History and Hindi = 18% of 100 = 18

Number of students failed = 26 + 38 - 18

Number of students failed = 46

∴ 46% of students failed in atleast one subject.

So, statement b is correct.

No. of students passed in both subjects = 100 - 46 = 54%

So, statement a is correct.

∴ The correct option is 3 (both a and b).
