Correct Answer - Option 2 : Insulate the core

Transformer oil:

  • Transformer oil works in two ways first it is insulation in electrical power transformer and second, it dissipates the heat of the transformer i.e. acts as a coolant
  • Transformer oil is normally obtained by fractional distillation and subsequent treatment of crude petroleum
  • It prevents corrosion of the internal components and tank

Characteristics of transformer oil:

1) High dielectric breakdown

2) Low viscosity

3) Free from moisture

4) Low pour point

5) Low flashpoint
