Given:

Time taken = 3 minutes = 180 s

Formula Used:

Speed = Distance/Time

Concept Used:

If two objects are moving in the same direction with speeds S₁ and S₂,

Their relative speed is S₁ – S₂

Calculation:

∵ Since both are running in the same direction,

Relative speed = speed of policeman – speed of thief

Relative speed = 100/180 m/s

⇒ 100/180 × 18/5 km/h = 2 km/h

∴ The Speed of the policeman was 2 km/h more than that of the thief.
