Correct Answer - Option 2 : Reticulate

Concept-

  • Plastids are found in plants and euglenoids.
  • Based on the type of pigments plastids can be classified into chloroplasts, chromoplasts, and leucoplasts.
  • The chloroplasts contain chlorophyll and carotenoid pigments which are responsible for trapping light energy essential for photosynthesis.
  • The chloroplasts are double membrane-bound.
  • The majority of the chloroplasts of the green plants are found in the mesophyll cells of the leaves.

Explanation-

  • The chloroplast is lens-shaped, oval, discoid,cup-shaped, girdle-shaped, reticulate, plate-like, ribbon-shaped, or spiral.
  • Oedogonium is a green alga found in freshwater, it has a filamentous body. The cells of the filament are cylindrical except for the basal cells (holdfast) which are root-like. These cells are used to attach to a surface.
  • The Oedogpnium has reticulate shaped chloroplast
  • Oedogonium either remains attached to other plants or is free-floating.

  • The 'cap cells' are one of the most distinctive features of Oedogonium.

Chloroplast shape Examples
Cup-shaped Chlamydomonas
Spiral shaped Spirogyra
Reticulate Oedogonium
Ribbon shaped Ectocarpus
