  • Raja Todarmal introduced the new system of revenue collection and agriculture tax in Haryana named as Dahshala System.
  • The Dahsala system was introduced in A.D. 1580 under the reign of Akbar.
  • This system was a land revenue system available in the majority of Akbar's empire in areas such as Lahore to Allahabad, Malwa, and Gujarat. Raja Todar Mal was the person who pioneered and introduced this system to the empire.
  • It was known to be one of the most efficient and effective revenues and record systems.
  • A rope was used for the measurement of the land but Raja Todar Mal introduced bamboos for this purpose which were joined together with the help of iron rings.

  • Raja Todar Mal was the finance minister of the Mughal empire during Akbar's reign. He was one of the Navaratnas in Akbar's court.
  • Raja Todar Mal divided all cultivable land into four categories :
    • ​Polaj:- It was the best land cultivated every year.
    • Parauti:- It was the land of the second category which was left uncultivated for a year or two so that it could recover its fertility.
    • Chachar:- It was left uncultivated for three to four years in order to make it cultivable.
    • Banjar:- It was not fit for agriculture and mostly left uncultivated for a long time.

  • Birbal:
    • He was a Hindu advisor and main commander of the army in the court of the Mughal emperor, Akbar.
    • He was a master in Sanskrit, Persian and Hindi languages.
    • His real name was Mahesh Das and the name Raja Birbal was given by Akbar.
