I. x2 − 12x − 405 =0

⇒ x² − 27x + 15x − 405  = 0

⇒ x(x − 27) + 15(x − 27) = 0

⇒ (x + 15), (x − 27) = 0

x = − 15, 27

 

II. y2 + 19y + 70 = 0

⇒ y² + 14y + 5y + 70 = 0

⇒ y(y + 14) + 5(y + 14) = 0

 y = − 14,  − 5

Comparison between x and y (via Tabulation):

Value of x	Value of y	Relation
−15	− 5	x < y
−15	− 14	x < y
27	− 5	x > y
