Correct Answer - Option 4 : Dictating Notes

The correct answer is "Dictating Notes".

In its simplest form, dictation refers to a person reading some text aloud so that the listener(s) can write down what is being said. When used in the language classroom, the aim has traditionally been for students to write down what is said by the teacher, word for word, later checking their own text against the original and correcting the errors made.

Good blackboard writing leads to the following:

  • The clarity in the understanding of concepts
  • Reinforcement of the idea which is being verbally presented.
  • Conveying a holistic picture of the content.

Questioning skills are essential to good teaching. Teachers often use questions to ensure that students are attentive and engaged and to assess students' understanding. Such questions enable the teacher to more accurately evaluate if the students truly were attentive and if they understand the material. One of the commonly used questioning techniques is to employ the 5W and 1H questions: Who, What, Where, When, Why and How. While this questioning technique is useful to some extent, most of the 5W questions tend to be close-ended and elicit factual responses. Although factual responses are necessary, as good teachers we need to promote higher-level thinking skills as well.

Explaining is an active skill in which the teacher tries to satis1fy student's queries related to any principles, conditions /situations or views. The teacher helps the students to learn. The explanation is a key skill. Generally, the skill of explanation is complex Explanation is to explain or to give understanding to another person. The role of an explanation is to make clearer the meaning of an object (method, term, assignment) maintaining formally the necessary distance between the object of the action or study and the tools. In the learning/teaching process, an explanation is a tool used by both, teacher and students.

Hence, dictating notes is not a teaching skill.
