One of the most important reasons for reorienting education for values is the fact that the current practices in school education by any large contribution to the lopsided development of students. These put exclusive focus on cognitive to the total neglect of the affective domain and present an alienation between head and heart. Education is necessarily a process of inculcating values to equip the learner to lead a life that is satisfying to the individual by the cherished values and ideals of the society. 

NCERT ( National Council of Educational Research and Training) is an organization that looks after various programs meant for imparting quality education at the national level. 

Values accepted by NCERT

  • Equality is another value enshrined in the Constitution. Freedom and justice remain mere words if equality is not ensured. It implies freedom from exploitation and ensuring opportunities for an individual’s development, irrespective of the background, gender, cultural or socio-economic identity, and status.
  • Values like truthfulness, sense of responsibility, trustworthiness, loyalty, love, peace, respect for others etc are nurtured right from the beginning, the efforts will go a long way to enable students to abide by the law and contribute to the larger health of society and nation at large.
  • Values like hard work, discipline, cooperation, communication skills, etc. enable them to develop healthy interpersonal relationships at home and in school which in turn facilitate their better adjustment on the job.
  • Personal and social values such as cleanliness, compassion, truthfulness, integrity, responsibility, justice, respect for law and order, courage, and the values cherished for the functioning of democracy.
  • Children learn to adjust and adapt to their environment, inculcate values of discipline, the dignity of labor, punctuality, dependability, open-mindedness, the spirit of inquiry, and a sense of responsibility. 

Hence, we can conclude that all of the above values have been accepted by NCERT about education.
