  • Garia Dance is performed by the Tripuri youths, especially during Garia Puja. The festival to celebrate the sowing of new crops and prayer for a good harvest during the month of Vaisakha. In the western calendar, the dancing occurs after the middle of April. Jhum (Shifting cultivation) has been the main cultural activity of the people in the hills. It reflects in their dances and songs as the focus of these have not only been on the rituals of Garia worship but also the different stages of Jhum cultivation.
