Correct Answer - Option 2 : Ball of mass 4 kg

The correct answer is option 2)

CONCEPT:

  • Kinetic energy (KE): The energy due to the motion of the body is called kinetic energy.

KE = (1/2) m v2

  • Momentum (p): The product of mass and velocity is called momentum.

p = m v

Where m is mass and v is velocity

The kinetic energy in terms of momentum is given by:

\(K=\frac{P^2}{2m}\)

where K is the kinetic energy of the body, P is the momentum of the body and m is the mass of the body.

EXPLANATION:

\(K=\frac{P^2}{2m}\)

P2 = 2 m K

Kinetic energy (K or KE) is the same for both:

So the body having more mass will have more momentum

Hence 4 kg will have more momentum.
