Correct Answer - Option 3 : 12 hrs

Given:

A tap can fill a tank in 4 hours

Due to leakage in the bottom, it takes 2 hours more

Concept:

Pipe A can fill the tank in x hrs.

∴ Pipe A can fill a tank in 1 hrs = 1/x

Calculation:

Let, the leakage can empty a completely filled tank in = x hours

According to the question,

⇒ (1/4) - (1/x) = (1/6)

⇒ (x - 4)/4x = (1/6)

⇒ 6x – 24 = 4x

⇒ 2x = 24

⇒ x = 12

∴ The leakage can empty a completely filled tank in 12 hours.
