Correct Answer - Option 2 : 15 liters

Given:

Quantity of mixture = 40 liters

Initially, the ratio of syrup and water is 5 ∶ 3

Final ratio of mixture is 5 ∶ 6

Calculation:

As the quantity of mixture is 40 liters

Amount of syrup = \( {5 \ \over 8} × 40\) = 25 liters

Amount of water = \( {3 \ \over 8} × 40\) = 15 liters

Let x amount of water is added,

∴ \( {25\ \over 15 + \;x} = {5 \ \over 6}\)

⇒ 150 = 5 × (15 + x)

⇒ 150 = 75 + 5x

⇒ 5x = 75

⇒ x = 75/5 = 15

∴ 15 liters of water is added.
