Correct Answer - Option 2 : 618 A.D.

The correct answer 618 A.D.

  • Pulakeshin, who ruled from the Chalukyan capital of Badami, challenged Harsha's conquests.
  • The former had established himself as ‘lord paramount’ of the south, as Harsha had of the north.
  • The date of Pulakeshi's great triumph over Harsha in a battle fought primarily with elephants, on the banks of the Narmada has been fixed at 618 AD by decoding a copper plate of Pulakeshin II.
  • Pulakeshin assumed the title of Parameshwara, Satyashraya, Prithvivallabha, Dakshinapatheshwara after this famous victory.
  • Harshabardhan went back to his capital after this incident. The treaty signed between the two meant that the Narmada became the boundary between Harsha’s empire and the Chalukya empire.
