Correct Answer - Option 1 : Change in Velocity

CONCEPT:

Velocity

  • The rate of change of displacement is defined as the velocity of the body
  • Velocity is a vector quantity i.e. it has both magnitudes as well as directions

Acceleration

  • The rate of change of velocity is known as the acceleration of the body
  • Acceleration is a vector quantity i.e. it has both magnitudes as well as directions

Deacceleration

  • When the acceleration of the body is in the opposite direction of velocity then it is said to be deacceleration
  • It is the negative acceleration of the body
  • The slope of any velocity-time graph gives acceleration or de-acceleration of the body

EXPLAINATION:

  • The area under the acceleration time graph gives the change in Velocity.
  • The area under a-t graph for a certain time interval is equal to the change in Velocity during that time interval.

⇒ Δa = Δv/Δt

  • Multiplying both sides by Δt,

⇒ Δv = Δa × Δt

  • Multiplying acceleration by a change in time is equivalent to finding the area under the curve.
  • Hence, option (1) is correct.
