Correct Answer - Option 2 : Active transport

The correct answer is Active transport.

  • Active transport is the movement of molecules across a cell membrane from a lower concentration to a region of higher concentration against the concentration gradient.

  • Osmosis is the movement of a solvent across a membrane (semipermeable)  toward a higher concentration of solute.
    • The solvent is typically water in biological systems, but osmosis can occur in other supercritical liquids, liquids, and even gases.
    • Osmotic pressure is the external pressure required to be applied so that there is no net movement of a solvent across the membrane.
    • The (Osmotic) pressure is a colligative property.
  • Diffusion is the net movement of anything from a higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. For example movement of ions, molecules, energy, atoms.
  • Passive transport does not require energy to move substances across cell membranes.
