  • JANTAR MANTAR IN DELHI
    • The monument is located in New Delhi and the meaning of the word 'Jantar Mantar' means an instrument for measuring the harmony of the heavens.
    • It was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1724 and its height is 723m.
    •  It is not a world Heritage Site.
    • The Jantar Mantar is an instrument that can measure the time of day quite precisely and the declination of the Sun and other heavenly bodies.
    • Originally there were 5 Jantar Mantar (Delhi, Ujjain, Mathura, Varanasi, and Jaipur), but only four exist today. The Jantar Mantar of Mathura was torn down just before the Revolt of 1857.

    • It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • AJANTA AND ELLORA
    • Ajanta Caves are located in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra and are rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments.
    • The caves include various Buddhist monasteries and worship halls. The Buddhist religious art of the caves is universally regarded as masterpieces.
    • The caves are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    • Ellora caves are also situated in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra and Ajanta caves form a major tourist attraction spot.

  • KHAJURAHO
